Amazon’s Instant-Order Dash Buttons Now Available for $5 Each.

The firm today started selling the Dash Button, a large, wifi enabled button that can be used to reorder common household products such as washing powder or even drinks.Amazon’s Dash buttons, which let users of the online retailer order a variety of products with the press of a button, are now available to purchase — if you have a Prime membership.Amazon Dash buttons are either the peak of convenience or a step toward a commercial-rampant apocalypse, but whatever camp you happen to be in, you can now buy those amazingly awful and awfully amazing brand-specific buttons for $5 as long you’re a Prime member. For $5, you’ll never have to worry about picking up a case of Smartwater or pack of mac and cheese again — just hit the button and you’ll be restocked in no time.

The way these technological terrors/wonders works is you buy one (out of 18) buttons, and stick it in your pantry or laundry room or bathroom or dorm room or nursery or whatever, set up the button through your Amazon Prime account so you get exactly what you want, and then press it. The Dash Buttons feels like a hardware middle ground between driving your ass to the store and some smart device knowing when you’re low on stuff and prompting you through a universal app (or maybe just ordering it for you). Eighteen products are covered by Dash buttons at present, from cleaning supplies to baby food, and presumably more will be added if these buttons are a hit.
