New Galaxy S6 “Active” Will Excite Samsung Fans.

And while Apple is substantially upping the prices of its iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus with the falling Canadian dollar, Samsung appears to be keeping its prices in line with its typical flagship releases. The unnamed source, who’s apparently close to Samsung, claims that a waterproof version will be eventually launched as an “Active” version of the recently released flagship.Samsung Electronics climbed to the highest in more than 15 months as Citigroup raised its share forecast and earnings estimates, citing expected demand for new Galaxy smartphones and components.

The tech giant has previously released multiple variants of its flagship handset (both the Galaxy S4 and S5 had active models), including a rugged version that’s built to withstand the elements. Henry Kim, an analyst at Citigroup, raised his share price forecast on the Suwon, South Korea-based company by 5.9pc and increased earnings estimates for this year and next. SamMobile says that the Galaxy S6 Active will be almost identical in terms of specifications, but will differ slightly in dimensions, which, I assume, accommodates the extra housing required to make it more durable: There’s no information on weight, but it’s safe to assume that it’s going to be slightly heavier.

Samsung’s unveiling of Galaxy S6 phones this month has spurred a rally in the stock as confidence grows that the company can revive earnings and stem a slide in market share. The stock has gained 8.6pc since it showed the new models, which include a version with a three-sided screen, even as Apple showed off its new watch. “Brokerages are revising up first and second-quarter earnings forecasts for Samsung Electronics, and it seems like foreign investors are purchasing the stocks on the profit optimism,” Park Seok Hyun, equity strategist at Seoul-based Eugene Investment & Securities, said. Some analysts expect Samsung may report about 5.5 trillion won (€4.6bn) in operating profit for the March quarter and 7.7 trillion won for the three months ending June, when Galaxy S6 sales will be included, Mr Park said. Samsung announced the S6 and S6 Edge, which features a screen that stretches down the right and left sides, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, pictured, on March 1. The phones will be available in white and black at market launch, with colour versions – blue, green and gold – to be available in the Canadian market later in the year.

Ken Price, vice-president carrier sales and marketing for Samsung Canada said early reaction to last week’s announcement of the new phones has been good and pre-sales are higher than its predecessors. So far the tradeoffs have been well received by consumers looking for a more premium look and feel in Samsung’s flagship phone. “I think what we felt since the GS 3, the GS 4 and 5 the marketplace feedback was there are good innovations in there but they felt like step products, not like a whole new generational piece so clearly there are things that we’ve done this time that take us in a different direction,” he said. “A direction around the design of the product and we’ve made some very different tradeoffs. “…Number one the design is different, different materials, it’s a metal frame, it’s completely encased in Corning Gorilla 4 Glass all around and it’s a design that now has the battery and memory sealed inside the product.

According to the Rogers website, the 16GB iPhone 6, which was selling with a two-year contract for $265 jumps to $349,; the 64GB goes from $375 to $479 and the 128GB from $485 to $599.
