Apple Inc. Offers Beats For Free With New Mac; “Back To School” Promotion.

Apple on Thursday announced its latest Back-to-School promotion, this time offering students or eligible faculty members a free pair of Beats headphones with the purchase of a new Mac.

Eligible products for the Beats deal are the iMac, MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and Mac Pro, according to Apple’s Back to School 2015 terms and conditions.Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has come up with a ground-breaking promotion for the summer’s end, as it is now offering students the Beats headphones for free. Only qualified education individuals are eligible for the promotion, which Apple defines as higher education students, parents and employees, or K-12 employees, board members and officers. That means teachers or administrators and other employees at a public or private K-12 school, or employees, students or parents of a student at a higher-education institution. As the name suggests, the promotion is intended as a reminder for students that summer is ending and schools are about to reopen for the fall semester.

Apple is offering consumers the chance to upgrade (for $100) to the Beats Solo 2 wireless headphones, which are set to perfectly match Apple’s new line of MacBooks coming in space gray, silver and gold tones. The deal is good in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico for now — but we expect Apple stores in other countries to follow-up with a similar Back-to-School promotion too. After years of excitement for the free iPods coming from this promotion, this deal has turned somewhat lackluster in the last couple years, with Apple just offering $100 gift cards to its App Store.

By giving away Beats headphones instead, Apple is not-so-subtly drawing attention to its recently launched Apple Music streaming service, which largely leverages the previously launched Beat Music subscription service. Perhaps by shifting back to offering a consumer product with the promotion, Apple can heighten excitement among customers while also bringing its Beats headphone line some more respect. Getting a $200 pair of headphones that are pretty decent (and look great) for free with a new computer is something we imagine a lot of students will be excited about. Previously, Apple offered $100 gift card for the iTunes and Mac App Store with a Mac purchase, after changing the trend from offering free iPod devices in special promotions.

The Apple Mac products had their pricings made more reasonable in the past to snatch away Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) users, who weren’t exactly delighted by the newly released Windows 8 at the time.
