iOS 8.3 arrives as public beta for iPhone and iPad users.

APPLE HAS LAUNCHED its first-ever iOS beta for version 8.3, allowing members of the general public to test the software ahead of release for the first time. Those interested can head over to Apple’s new Beta Software Program website and enter their details, although when we attempted to sign up there was no option available for the iOS beta.

Those who do manage to apply shouldn’t expect too many exciting features, as Apple explains: “The iOS 8.3 Beta includes improved performance, increased stability, bug fixes and a redesigned Emoji keyboard. “This release also supports additional language and country support for Siri: English (India, New Zealand), Danish (Denmark), Dutch (Netherlands), Portuguese (Brazil), Russian (Russia), Swedish (Sweden), Thai (Thailand), Turkish (Turkey).” Apple’s next major software release, iOS 9, is also tipped to be made available through the software beta programme, following its unveiling at WWDC in June. However, iOS 9 will apparently introduce a handful of treats, including transport directions and indoor mapping for Apple Maps, and split-screen multitasking for iPads. µ
