Apple yanks Google’s Nest smart thermostat from website and retail stores.

Apple confirmed to Mashable it has pulled the web-connected product — considered the first mainstream smart home product — from its shelves and website.

The smart wars are on as Apple has pulled Google-owned Nest’s smart thermostat from shelves in its retail stores and online just as the first batch of products that work on Apple’s HomeKit arrive.Apple has since confirmed to the folks at Mashable that this is indeed the case, just in case you were wondering if maybe this had to do with inventory issues, restocking, or maybe a glitch. However it seems that has changed because according to reports, it looks like Apple’s online and physical retail stores are no longer carrying any of Nest’s products.

As well as a new version of the smart thermostat it recently launched the Nest Cam, a full HD 1080p device with motion detection and night vision that transmits all video instantly to the cloud. Meanwhile, Google has announced its own HomeKit competitor, called Brillo, which it hopes will be able to bring together all of the connected devices it owns. Apple’s product assortment is always changing — and it recently scaled down on the number of items it is offering in stores — but the removal doesn’t come as a huge surprise as the company looks to promote the incoming flux of HomeKit-enabled devices. Google launched it own competing standard, Brillo, to HomeKit back in May, an operating system for the Internet of Things (IotT) that offers all the same bells and whistles as HomeKit does, but naturally working with Android devices. It pulled Fitbit and Jawbone fitness trackers from its stores after it launched the Apple Watch, but Jawbone’s products have since been reinstated.
