Apple Watch Edition buyers will be treated like VIPs by Apple

Air Canada develops Apple Watch app to improve customer experience.

If you’re planning to buy one of Apple’s more expensive iterations of the Apple Watch—specifically, its $10,000 Watch Edition version of the device, which comes with an 18-karat gold case, a sapphire crystal display, and a variety of different watch buckles to choose from—you might want to wait a moment and make sure you understand all the potential perks that come along with the device.

To give their customers an even better experience, Apple will be adding a new “Magical” display case in their retail stores to allow their customers to test out the new Apple Watch in a more unique way.Customers can get personal and relevant information about flights departing within a 24-hour window from the new Air Canada application for Apple Watch.

At these prices, one could easily nab themselves a luxury timepiece of the traditional variety, so why would anyone want to drop $10-17,000 on an Apple Watch? Or, as Apple is allegedly phrasing it to its retail employees, a shopping experience that “is intended to be extremely personal, elegant, and purposeful.” First up, potential Apple Watch Edition purchasers won’t have to wait in any kind of line in order to check out one of the devices. (That said, we’re not quite sure what would stop any ol’ person from saying they want to check out an Apple Watch Edition and getting the white-glove treatment.) These special appointments will occur in a special private area separate from the standard Apple Store floor. Now, citing sources familiar with the matter, a 9To5Mac report states that ‘Apple has developed a unique Apple Store purchasing experience just for the Apple Watch Edition’.

The customer will be greeted by an Apple specialist upon arriving for their appointment and the customers will be taken to the Magical display case where they can check out all the models available. You’ll get your own Apple Store Expert to chat with, an employee who has been specially trained to both showcase the device and work with Apple’s more exclusive customers, for lack of a better way to phrase it. Now, if you opt for the stainless steel Watch, you get the option to have a “virtual personal setup” that will also have an Apple Store staff member guiding you through the smartwatch’s setup via video chat.

Air Canada’s mobile strategy of innovating with the latest technology to provide customers a wide variety of options for managing their travel using their preferred personal device,” said Craig Landry, vice president of marketing at Air Canada. Last September, Starwood Preferred Guest announced that with the launch of Apple Watch their application will allow the guests to check-in and open their room door using the watch.

Such services are not uncommon when you think about credit card companies, banks, hotels, or car companies that cater to the elite, so it is interesting to see Apple potentially moving to that market. In that case, another retail employee will come with the non-Edition models, which will be brought from separate tables assigned for standard watches. The special try-on table will be accompanied by a pair of stools, Edition demo kit and a try-on mat, just we see in jewellery stores. “Once the customer decides to purchase the Edition, it can be set up in one of two ways: in-store with the same Expert or via a new service called Virtual Personal Setup,” the report further adds.
