9 Things You Can Now Do With Apple Watch That You Couldn’t Before.

APPLE HAS FINALLY released watchOS 2 to Apple Watch owners after it was last week forced to delay the rollout due to the discovery of a ‘critical bug’. watchOS 2, the first major update for the , was set to make its debut alongside iOS 9 last Wednesday, but Apple was forced to delay the release after it admitted to uncovering a ‘critical bug’ in the software. “We have discovered a bug in development of watchOS 2 that is taking a bit longer to fix than we expected,” an Apple spokesperson told The INQUIRER. “We will not release watchOS 2 today but will shortly.” Released it shortly Apple did, with the firm kicking off the rollout of watchOS 2 on Monday.SAN FRANCISCO — Apple said a software update for Apple Watch is now available after last week’s (Sept 16) release was delayed because a problem in the operating system couldn’t be fixed in time.

However, echoing the release of iOS 9, the launch hasn’t gone exactly to plan, with some users struggling to kit out their wearable with the latest software. Owners of Apple Watch can download the software update, called watchOS 2, which includes features such as new faces and the availability of native applications from outside developers that use the device’s heart-rate sensor and other tools. Some are complaining that their iPhone is failing when attempting to search for the update, while others are being told that their Apple Watch software is already up to date, despite running the previous watchOS 1.0.1 release. WatchOS 2 brings the same thing to the Apple Watch: you can now install fully-fledged apps that run on the Apple Watch hardware, rather than on the paired iPhone. The device is Apple’s first new hardware product since the iPad was released in 2010 and a key part of Apple chief executive officer Tim Cook’s attempt to find areas of growth outside of the iPhone.

You can expect a whole deluge of third-party stuff in the coming weeks. iOS 9 includes public transport directions in Maps (finally!), which means Siri and Maps on your watch can tell you which train to take, in certain cities. At the moment, you’re restricted to New York City, San Francisco, Baltimore, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Mexico City, Toronto, London, and Berlin. If you leave your watch plugged in and on its side at night, it’ll now do something slightly useful: act as an alarm clock, lighting up whenever you touch the screen, but most importantly, making the digital crown button work as a snooze for the alarm. If you don’t want to pull your phone out to reply to emails, you’ve now got two much better options: reply with emoji(s), or use the microphone to dictate a response.

For video calls, you’re obviously lacking a camera on your wrist, so you just get the option to accept the call on your iPhone, or reject Mom outright.
