Facebook is down for the second time in a week (Update: Fixed)
Brief Facebook outage prompts flurry on Twitter.
SAN FRANCISCO: Facebook users experienced a brief outage of the huge social network on Sept 24, with many turning to Twitter to vent frustration or joke about the incident. Residents of Planet Earth were shaken to the core early Thursday afternoon when Facebook — the social network that prides itself on being reliable — went down worldwide. The #facebookdown theme became a global trending item on the messaging platform. “Facebook was down, people took to the streets waving pictures in people’s faces screaming “DO YOU LIKE THIS????, TELL ME YOU LIKE THIS!!!!,” one Twitter user wrote. Facebook, which has some 1.49 billion active users, according to the latest company update, experienced a major outage in January lasting around one hour. ET. “We’re working with our core infrastructure teams to identify the issue and will update you when we have more information.” According to Facebook’s own Platform Status for developers, the Facebook Graph API became unavailable as of 12:30 p.m.

(Facebook.com) As if often the case with an internet outage of this magnitude, many made jokes about “going outside” and “getting offline” and communicating “the old way.” As Business Insider reports, Facebook users reacted similarly in January when the site went down for an hour due to technical issues caused by changes to configuration systems.
