Instagram gets to 400 million users — but is still dwarfed by WhatsApp and Facebook.

‘While milestones like this are important, what really excites us is the way that visual communication makes the world feel a little bit smaller to every one of us.’ It continued that more than 75 per cent of its users now live outside of the US and among the last 100 million members to join, more than half live in Europe and Asia. ‘We’ve seen inspiring moments like the first surface image of Pluto and Champions League celebrations, as well as striking locales like the white pools of Turkey and a Namibian desert ghost town. Among the most recent new members, David Beckham is the most followed account in the UK, Caitlyn Jenner tops the US list, Raffi and Nagita are most popular in Indonesia. In a blog post announcing the milestone, the company said: “We are thrilled to announce that the Instagram community has grown to more than 400 million strong.

Now, we continue to strive to improv eInstagram – helping you experience the world through images and connect with others through shared passions.” The company launched a new app, Layout from Instagram, in March to enable users to select up to three photos at once and combine them into a single image in a range of layouts. Photos can be selected from the phone’s camera roll, or taken with the Photo Booth tool, and Layouts can then be ‘remixed’ and edited with mirror effects and flips.
