Apple iPhone 6s Goes on Fire Sale at Best Buy for $1.

Customers who shop at Best Buy BBY -2.25% stores or on the retail company’s online marketplace will find that it’s selling the 16GB iPhone 6s for just $1. Big savings on Apple products have meant that Best Buy is increasingly living up to its name, but today’s iPhone deal may be one of the best yet for the cash-starved. You have to sign up for a two year deal with Verizon or Sprint, although even with this proviso you’re still saving the best part of two hundred bucks on the usual price for the deal. For one, the offer only applies to Verizon VZ -0.61% and Sprint S 0.14% versions of Apple’s smartphone, leaving AT&T T -0.24% customers out of luck. Sadly, 64GB and 128GB iPhone models aren’t included as part of the offer, which means you’ll have to settle for an iPhone with very limited storage space.

That’s not necessarily a problem if you don’t download too many apps, and take advantage of cloud storage, but it’s not great for iPhone 6s features like Live Photos which take up around 2x the space of a regular still photo. With less than a week left till Christmas, people will buy gifts for their loved ones and for themselves in bulk, a huge lot of which will likely be the premium branded smartphones, as they mostly are. Since the last time you purchased an iPhone or smartphone plans changed, with a shift to paying for the phone over two years instead of getting a major up front discount. Apple AAPL -1.23% often has an iron-like grip on its product pricing, so it’s somewhat surprising to see Best Buy offer such a steep discount on the company’s most popular product. Aside from making the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6 available for just a dollar, Best Buy will toss in a $200 gift card, if you give in an iPhone 5 or a newer model for this deal.

Apple CEO Tim Cook previously said that the company will beat last year’s fourth quarter iPhone sales record this Christmas, going beyond 74.5 million units. While the move was viewed by some analysts as a way for Best Buy to boost sales, some also said it suggested the company was looking to deplete its stock of Apple Watch in anticipation of a second-generation model to be announced in March. Keep in mind that some carriers have exclusive access to content like the NFL Mobile app on Verizon that lets users stream free games, as long as they use a Verizon phone. The company announced on its website that this weekend only, customers who buy an iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus will be able to double the amount of memory for free.
