‘Gran Turismo Sport’ PS4 Release Date: PlayStation VR Support Confirmed, FIA-Sanctioned Championship Announced [TRAILER].

Paris Games Week is on, and Sony has kicked it off with a press conference that included a hearty dose of new announcements and details for PlayStation VR, including heavy-hitter franchises Tekken and Gran Turismo.Sony bought a stack of new PS4 and PlayStation VR game announces, reveals and videos to the French show, resulting in plenty of new information to pore through. The PlayStation 4 accessory looks like it’s going to play a large role in Sony’s 2016 offerings when it launches sometime in the first half of next year. Details are slim right now, but Gran Turismo Sport will have everything you expect (ie. sleek cars going fast in a realistic environment) and will additionally introduce an online racing series that will reportedly be “recognized alongside real world motor racing by the FIA” (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile).

During Sony’s press conference, Polyphony finally revealed an amazing announcement trailer for the long-awaited Gran Turismo race sim for PlayStation 4. Sony began its VR showing with a new trailer for RIGS, a competitive title that, based on what I’ve seen of it, I’m going to describe as “Robot Quidditch.” There are mech suits, goals, and team-based shooting, all from a first-person perspective. The trailer below doesn’t reveal much, but according to the store description it allows you to race on all 78 existing Driveclub tracks and features ‘the world’s best superbikes’ fromYamaha, Ducati, Kawasaki, Honda, Bimota, BMW, and more. The trailer showed off an arena based in Dubai, full of smooth edges and multi-level paths, all surrounded by a lovely view of the futuristic version of the city. Polyphony Digital’s Kazunori Yamauchi was on stage to announce the game (alongside his adorable notepad-wielding translator), but didn’t offer an awful lot of detail.

Honestly, we’re not sure exactly how this game will flesh out; while it’s clearly not Gran Turismo 7, the title is not Gran Turismo 7 Prologue either. This was disappointing, but any date’s better than what we had before, and Hello Games said it has new, much-requested game features to reveal in the future – which may explain what’s taking so long. The centrepiece of the game though seems to be a tie-in with the FIA, which will involve two online championships running throughout the year – The Nations Cup and the The Manufacturer’s Fan Cup – with the winners being given their awards at a FIA event attended by real motorsport drivers such as Lewis Hamilton. Another first-person game, this one had a trailer where the player character crept nervously under a dino stampede before pausing in their tracks before a menacing T-Rex type, Jurassic Park style. At the end of the season, the winner of either championship will be invited to the FIA awards to receive an award alongside real racing professionals.

Ono came to confirm Dhalsim’s inclusion in the roster and to talk about how Street Fighter 5 will get six new DLC characters you can purchase with in-game currency. The best part of each announcement, however, was the glimpse we got of face models in highly CG environments pretending to be immersed in the magic of virtual reality. Gameplay of the VR on Gran Turismo has not been released yet, but we can already imagine the level of hyper-realism a pair of VR goggles can offer for racing. Check out the first console trailer: Sony happily showed off a new Star Wars Battlefront trailer showing Leia, Boba Fett, Han Solo and even Palpatine. Sony and 2K must be on good terms right now as it was announced that the Battleborn beta is coming first to PS4 along with a bunch of new gameplay details of Gearbox’s hybrid shooter project.

Wonderstruck’s Boundless looks a bit like Minecraft, I must say, but it’s played in a single shared universe, and the trailer hints that you can traverse via some sort of rope launcher.
