Motorola hopes you’ll fall for latest Moto X, Moto G phones.

At special coordinated live events in London, Brazil and New York, Motorola took the wraps off a new handset, the Moto X Style, which, the company claims, redefines the relationship that consumers have with their smartphones.

Motorola says 60% of people globally have slept with their phones, 57% have used their handsets in the bathroom and 17% have even showered with the device. It’s called the ‘Style’ because it is meant to complement the user’s personal taste, and Motorola claims it is the most customizable handset in existence, or at least it will be when it goes on sale in September. Such stats come from an online survey of more than 7,000 smartphone owners in the U.S. and a half-dozen other countries, which Motorola revealed at a global press event Tuesday to announce the next three phones it hopes you’ll fall for.

Motorola has been busy examining how consumers actually use their devices and what can be done to improve to redefine the relationship so that it’s less one-sided. So as well as a host of customization options such as natural wood covers or brightly colored plastics, it has a huge, 21-megapixel camera on its rear — one of the best in the industry — plus a 5-megapixel unit with flash on the front. They include a 5.7-inch quad HD display, an all-day battery with fast charging, and a 21-megapixel rear camera that is complemented by a 5-megapixel front facing one. What’s more, the phone will work on all four major U.S. wireless carriers, and only be distributed online through Motorola, Amazon and Best Buy, and in Best Buy stores.

It will not be available in physical carrier stores. “We’re seeing this a lot where anyone who is not Apple or Samsung and looking at the shelf space and promotion that they’re getting from U.S. carriers, or the lack thereof, (are trying their own) distribution channel,” says analyst Avi Greengart of Current Analysis. “Carriers are less punitive about that than they used to be, now that they’re moving more to device financing models.” The water-resistant and more budget-oriented Moto G, a pretty powerful phone in its own right for its $179.99 unlocked price, will be available in carrier stores in August. The handset is big on entertainment too thanks to a Quad HD 5.7-inch almost bezel-free display plus front-facing stereo speakers; it packs a six-core Snapdragon processor and 3GB of RAM. For its part, Lenovo has also been pushing the Motorola brand in a number of countries. “They’re looking to make Motorola a global brand again,” says Ross Rubin, an analyst with Reticle Research. “(Motorola) is continuing the approach that they essentially started when they were acquired by Google.

Going for a pure Android experience, trying to focus on a clean design, very little bloatware, (and) helpful features like shaking to activate the camera.
