Motorola refreshing new Android smartphones Moto G, Moto X Play and Moto X Style in ‘alternatives push’.

Motorola is refreshing its Android smartphones with better cameras and other improvements as it seeks to lure customers who want lower-cost alternatives to leading smartphones from Apple and Samsung. At special coordinated live events in London, Brazil and New York, Motorola took the wraps off a new handset, the Moto X Style, which, the company claims, redefines the relationship that consumers have with their smartphones. It’s called the ‘Style’ because it is meant to complement the user’s personal taste, and Motorola claims it is the most customizable handset in existence, or at least it will be when it goes on sale in September. Motorola has been busy examining how consumers actually use their devices and what can be done to improve to redefine the relationship so that it’s less one-sided.

In touting improved cameras, Osterloh was careful to say that they will deliver some of the best pictures “at this price point.” Apple and Samsung, in particular, have been advancing phone-camera technology with better auto-focus and low-light performance. Moto G will sell at price of USD 180 for the lesser storage option in the US and it is available now and in India, the 8GB version will cost Rs. 11,999 while the 16GB model will be 12,999. Likewise a phone should learn your preferences and know when and when not to ring, so Motorola has focused heavily on software features that are contextual and useful such as Moto Assist which will read out text messages as well as transcribe dictated notes and will be able to tell when the user is in a meeting or at home and so will slip into silent mode. The handset is big on entertainment too thanks to a Quad HD 5.7-inch almost bezel-free display plus front-facing stereo speakers; it packs a six-core Snapdragon processor and 3GB of RAM. It may feature a 1.7GHz Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor, 16GB or 32GB of expandable storage, 2GB of RAM, the 21-megapixel main camera, a 5 megapixel front camera and a 3,630mAh battery.

It features include Moto Display for the users to check notifications by waving their hand over the screen and Moto Voice for speech-guided assistance even when the device’s screen is off.
