Bang & Olufsen to replace Beats as audio in HP computers, devices.

Hewlett-Packard Co said it had entered into a partnership to equip its PCs, tablets and other gadgets with audio technology from Danish television and sound system maker Bang & Olufsen. The Danish brand will lend its audio technology to HP’s lineup, promising bold, crisp, accurate sound in each custom-tuned notebook, desktop, tablet, and accessory. The companies said each device would be custom-tuned and feature designs that separate audio circuits from other motherboard signals and limited metal in headphone jacks to produce clearer sound.

Denmark-based Bang & Olufsen, whose North America division is headquartered in Deerfield, will take the place of Beats in new HP devices, which previously powered sound for 15 to 20 percent of HP devices, according to CNET. The companies will “custom tune” audio for each PC model; different models typically have different hardware specifications in order to meet different expectations. Apple Inc bought Beats, co-founded by influential hip-hop producer Dr Dre and music mogul Jimmy Iovine, for US$3bil (RM10.99bil) in May last year. – Reuters Most recently, the company has launched a range of innovative products including its BeoPlay H8 Headphones, BeoPlay A2 music system and BeoSound Moment. The PCs will likely have a sticker attached or logo engraved on them to highlight the audio technology, similar to stickers for operating systems and processors widely found on laptops and desktops.

After the acquisition, HP stopped attaching Beats logos or brand names to its PCs, and instead started saying it was using homegrown audio technology. At the launch of the recent HP Spectre X360 last month, an HP executive declined to tell the IDG News Service whether the homegrown technology was influenced by Beats, or if it had Beats amplifiers in them. HP has excellent in-house technology to boost audio in PCs, said Mike Nash, vice president of product management for consumer personal systems, at the time. Since then, the brand has become an icon of performance and design excellence through its long-standing craftsmanship tradition and the strongest possible commitment to high-tech research and development.
