HTC ‘Aero’ leak shows iPhone-like colors, mid-range power.

Evan Blass took to his @evleaks Twitter account to detail specs and promotional material for the HTC One A9, which he says is the official name for the phone in development under the name HTC Aero. Whenever a particular device is about to hit the market, chances are you are going to see its image or schematics appear on the FCC, where someone has duly done his or her homework to pull out such images for all and sundry to check out, or you will also get to check out the device in the flesh, thanks to the numerous opportunities available to insiders who are then able to snap a photo of the device behind closed doors. If he’s right, it’s not the high-end, 10-core model we were expecting, but rather a mid-ranger aimed at style-conscious types, with no less than six color options. The skeptical among us might notice that it vaguely resembles an iPhone 6s, and in fact has three color choices that are nigh-on identical to Apple’s latest handsets (rose gold, carbon gray and silver).

In terms of specs, this is definitely going to be a mid-range device, with a Snapdragon 617 CPU, 2GB of RAM, a 1080p screen, and 13-megapixel camera (four megapixels on the front). That said, it should serve its purpose with a decent-sounding 13-megapixel backside illuminated, optically stabilized camera (4-megapixel selfie cam), fingerprint sensor and MicroSD card expansion. However, with so many good flagships like the Samsung series, LG G4, and reasonably priced phones like the Moto X Pure Edition it’s difficult to imagine an opening for HTC. You’ll get to keep your current user name (as long as it doesn’t contain invalid characters, in which case you’ll have to go through a few extra steps to make the transfer), and all your old comments will eventually (not immediately) migrate with you.
