HTC One M9 Review.

HTC’s latest revision to its One smartphone might not be all that revolutionary, but it’s still a damn good phone. OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Mar 26, 2015 (BUSINESS WIRE) — The new HTC One® M9 will be available for shipment from all Sprint S, +0.63% sales channels, including Sprint Stores, Telesales at 1-800-SPRINT1 and, beginning Friday, March 27.

HTC’s One M9 is a beautifully-crafted smartphone with a unibody zero-gap aluminum shell and with a dual-tone colour feature to stand out from the crowd, but it isn’t a drastic overhaul from M8. As you would expect, building from such a solid base, the One M8 also received a good reaction, cementing HTC’s place as a leading player in the highly competitive smartphone market.

So when the company revealed the One M9, another upgraded version of the award winning handset at Mobile World Congress earlier this month, it provoked some raised eyebrows, and high expectations. After all, it would have to be exceptionally good to convince fans who had upgraded within the past 12 months to part with potentially hundreds more euro to get the newest version. Then Sprint said it will also let customers order the device today online and in-store — note: you won’t be able to pick up the M9 in-store today, but you can order it there.

At the end of 24 months, customers in good standing currently have the following options1: Sprint will pay whatever it costs to switch, including early termination fees and remaining payments on the phone installment plans – no matter what is owed. The power button has moved to the right side of the device rather from the top, just below the volume buttons and has given some texture to differentiate by touch alone. HTC claims that the back cover is a 70-step process of coating, machining, beveling and re-beveling to make it scratch resistant and give it a jewelry-esque premium look. AT&T is selling the M9 for $199 with a 2-year contract, Sprint is selling the handset on its lease programme, and Verizon will be doing the same deal as AT&T starting April 1st. Sprint will refund the switching costs within approximately 15 days of successfully completing the online registration and providing a bill that shows the early termination charge or device balance due. “If you’re considering the beautiful new HTC One M9, now is the time to rediscover Sprint,” said Doug Kaufman, director-Device Strategy, Sprint. “The Sprint network provides significantly better call quality and faster data speeds in more places than before.

The five-inch Full HD IPS device (441 pixel per inch density) is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa-core processor, with four cores clocked at 2GHz and four at 1.5GHz, coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage capacity. With the Themes app, users can change the colours, textures, icons, sounds and fonts while the Sense Home provides users with news, stories, recommendations about apps tailored to their needs. The screen remains the same as on the M8 – it’s 5 inches in size with a Full HD 1080p resolution, which is arguably a missed opportunity when so many other manufacturers are moving to Quad HD. If the user is in the office, the Sense shows, Microsoft mail, Calendar, Scribble, Drive, Goggle apps folder, play store and apps suggestions while out, it shows Music, Calendar, Maps, Car Navigation, Google apps and Play Store, and shows Music, calendar, YouTube, Twitter, Google apps and Play Store while at home.

While you might think quality phone speakers have become redundant, being able to watch a few YouTube clips with proper, deep audio is a luxury I can no longer live without. It is contextually aware of location, time of day and what apps are preferred at home, work or on the go and will intelligently recommend apps and nearby restaurants with ratings from friends and followers.

Up, down, left and right swipes will unlock, turn on voice dialling, launch the widget panel and open BlinkFeed respectively – all with the screen off. Sprint served nearly 56 million connections as of Dec. 31, 2014, and is widely recognized for developing, engineering and deploying innovative technologies, including the first wireless 4G service from a national carrier in the United States; leading no-contract brands including Virgin Mobile USA, Boost Mobile, and Assurance Wireless; instant national and international push-to-talk capabilities; and a global Tier 1 Internet backbone. However, camera purists seem disappointed that HTC, which has a reputation for innovative developments in camera technology, has changed direction back towards what its competitors have been doing for some time.

The app is simple as it has camera, selfie and panorama but users can add effects like Bokeh for capturing with depth of field; Split captures photos taken with both the front and the back camera on and photo booth captures four photos in a grid. If service or lease is cancelled early, the remaining lease payments become due immediately and customer must return the device or pay the purchase option. 2Most improved network claim based upon Sprint’s relative increase in first-place or tied for first place awards across all award categories combined as noted in the RootMetrics 2nd Half 2014 Mobile Network Performance Review Report, published Feb. 10, 2015, of four mobile networks across all available network types comparing the second half of 2014 to the first half of 2014.

When it comes to storage, HTC has gone with a fixed 32GB ROM in the M9, which can be extended by another 2TB via the microSD, which is impressive for those who store their life’s work on their phones. Aside from all that, there are some new features around the interface in Sense 7 and BlinkFeed, the addition of the Peel Smart Remote app for controlling your TV viewing and some other minor tweaks and changes. The One Gallery feature is really useful for people like me as I take lot of photos on my camera and later find it difficult to search for a particular picture when needed. The Harman Kardon’s Blackfire protocol in HTC Connect feature lets users use a three-finger swipe to send different songs to different multi-room speakers from the same phone while a reverse gesture will bring it back.

It does not have fingerprint scanner, wireless charging or heart-rate monitor and HTC just focused on improving its existing hardware and software segments. If you want to have a half-decent camera on you, whether it be for social media or to keep memories, the camera on the One is just too disappointing to make up for everything else great about the device.
