HTC One E9 Plus smartphones revealed in leak promo images.

With only minor design and specs differences helping separate the two devices, the M9 has failed to kick on HTC’s mobile efforts in the same way that the Galaxy S6 has pushed Samsung into new realms of smartphone supremacy.

Serial Twitter leakster @upleaks of China first revealed that HTC was working on a new handset with the code name Hima Ultra, before confirming that the phone was the HTC One M9+. Unfortunately for the manufacturer, this is where its lack of handset homework showed it up with, an image of the M8 proudly displayed alongside the proclamation “#BoomSound and be there. Sources have claimed a display size between 5.2 and 5.5 inches, but most agree that the One M9+ will feature a 2,550 x 1,440 resolution display, which would make it HTC’s first foray into Quad HD. The phone is also expected to feature a Samsung-style fingerprint scanner mounted on the front of the device, next to the front-facing BoomSound speakers — though @upleaks says it is not a home button.

Hemmerstoffer said the device will be available in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, though no word yet on whether the new smartphone will come to the U.S.
