Deal – Waterproof HTC RE camera sells for just $50.

HTC this week dropped the price of the Re to just $50, making it a way better deal for those in need of a convenience camera that’s easier to shoot with than your smartphone, but not almost as hardcore as a GoPro.HTC says the Re can record up to one hour and 50 minutes of continuous 1080p30 footage, which is on the lower side compared with other action cameras, which can last up to 2.5 hours. It has a 16-megapixel sensor that can capture Full HD 1080 videos at 30 frames per second and 720p 4x slow motion video, 146-degree wide angle lens with f2. That lined up with other similarly-specced action cams, but it appears as though the general public just wasn’t ready to spend that kind of cash on one from HTC. To give you a backgrounder on the HTC RE, it is an action camera similar in concept to the ones released by GoPro, but with a decidedly more peculiar design.

They can easily edit their photos and videos and share them instantly. When HTC announced its stand-alone Re sports camera, more than one commenter wondered what the company was doing leaving its smartphone comfort zone for an industry that’s already dominated by a single player. Photo quality has been described anywhere from being average to solid, and while this may turn you off on the device, you’ll also want to keep in mind that you don’t need to pair it with your smartphone. The fact that the RE has no viewfinder may also work for you, as you can literally point, shoot, and take photos – bada bing, bada boom, you’re done.

The question now is whether the company has decided to clear out the original RE to make way for a new model or if they’re done with action cams completely. They’re now betting big on virtual reality, after partnering with Valve on the Vive headset and sinking $10 into the acquisition of California-based WEVR this summer to deliver VR experiences.
