HTC One M9 Pre-Orders Begin March 27.

HTC’s One M9 is a beautifully-crafted smartphone with a unibody zero-gap aluminum shell and with a dual-tone colour feature to stand out from the crowd, but it isn’t a drastic overhaul from M8.The latest iteration of HTC’s One handset sports an all-metal unibody design, with a new scratch-resistant, dual finish and two color options—gunmetal gray and dual-tone silver (with subtle gold mirror-polished sides).BELLEVUE, Wash., March 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ – HTC America Inc., a leader in mobile innovation, will begin selling its highly anticipated new flagship device, the HTC One® M9 that comes with the industry-leading UH OH™ Protection, online in the U.S. at 12:01 a.m.The smartphone, which was launched to good reviews at the Mobile World Congress earlier this month, will initially be sold through the company’s website.

Widely considered smartphone of the year for the past two years, the third generation of the HTC One ups the ante in the smartphone category with the most personal, intuitive and powerful smartphone from HTC yet while continuing the design heritage for which the HTC One is known. “The craftsmanship of our new HTC One M9 resembles that of a fine watch. We’ve retained our iconic design but made it even better while not compromising on what is important to our customers,” said Jason Mackenzie, president of HTC America.

The power button has moved to the right side of the device rather from the top, just below the volume buttons and has given some texture to differentiate by touch alone. HTC claims that the back cover is a 70-step process of coating, machining, beveling and re-beveling to make it scratch resistant and give it a jewelry-esque premium look.

HTC’s chairwoman Cher Wang took on the role of CEO last week, while former CEO Peter Chou was given a new position within the company to lead the “Future Development Lab.” Samsung will also start shipping its Galaxy S6 smartphone—which was also unveiled at MWC—very soon. The five-inch Full HD IPS device (441 pixel per inch density) is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa-core processor, with four cores clocked at 2GHz and four at 1.5GHz, coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage capacity. HTC Themes offers a unique customizable home screen either by selecting from the theme collection or by creating a custom theme from a favorite photo. With the Themes app, users can change the colours, textures, icons, sounds and fonts while the Sense Home provides users with news, stories, recommendations about apps tailored to their needs. It is contextually aware of location, time of day and what apps are preferred at home, work or on the go and will intelligently recommend apps and nearby restaurants with ratings from friends and followers.

Users will also find a 20-megapixel rear camera (protected by a sapphire lens cover) and a 13-megapixel front shooter, plus a host of editing effects. The LTE smartphone has a 64-bit Qualcomm eight-core Snapdragon 810 processor, which is considered among the most advanced mobile processors for smartphones. If the user is in the office, the Sense shows, Microsoft mail, Calendar, Scribble, Drive, Goggle apps folder, play store and apps suggestions while out, it shows Music, Calendar, Maps, Car Navigation, Google apps and Play Store, and shows Music, calendar, YouTube, Twitter, Google apps and Play Store while at home. The M9 retains the microSD slot, but increases capacity to 2TB, “because you want your content with you,” HTC America President Jason Mackenzie said in a statement.

Also, the addition of Dolby Audio to HTC BoomSound means a surround-sound experience. “We are not only delivering the best-looking, best-performing smartphone on the market, we are ensuring it stays that way with UH OH Protection,” Mackenzie said. “We are the only smartphone company that has your back if something unfortunate happens or if you need to change carriers.” The new insurance feature includes one free replacement within the first 12 months after purchase, if your device incurs a cracked screen or water damage. The front-facing UltraPixel™ camera captures more light than most 13 megapixel cameras ensuring sharper, more natural and balanced self-portraits in any lighting conditions. Up, down, left and right swipes will unlock, turn on voice dialling, launch the widget panel and open BlinkFeed respectively – all with the screen off. The app is simple as it has camera, selfie and panorama but users can add effects like Bokeh for capturing with depth of field; Split captures photos taken with both the front and the back camera on and photo booth captures four photos in a grid.

The One Gallery feature is really useful for people like me as I take lot of photos on my camera and later find it difficult to search for a particular picture when needed. An unlocked version will be available on www.htc.com for $649, starting tonight (March 27th) at 12:01 AM ET, and for the first time a 12-month interest-free financing option.

The Harman Kardon’s Blackfire protocol in HTC Connect feature lets users use a three-finger swipe to send different songs to different multi-room speakers from the same phone while a reverse gesture will bring it back. It does not have fingerprint scanner, wireless charging or heart-rate monitor and HTC just focused on improving its existing hardware and software segments. As a global innovator in smart mobile devices and technology, HTC has produced award-winning products and industry firsts since its inception in 1997, including the critically acclaimed HTC One and Desire lines of smartphones. The pursuit of brilliance is at the heart of everything we do, inspiring best-in-class design and game-changing mobile experiences for consumers around the world. HTC is listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE: 2498). www.htc.com ** Manufactured under license from Dolby Laboratories. **UH OH Protection valid in the U.S./D.C. only.
