Apple plans steps to prevent future App Store attacks.

Beijing/Boston: Apple Inc’s chief marketing executive Phil Schiller said on Tuesday that the company plans steps to prevent further attacks on its App Store. Apple Inc said on Sunday it is cleaning up its iOS App Store to remove malicious iPhone and iPad programs identified in the first large-scale attack on the popular mobile software outlet. The company disclosed the effort after several cyber security firms reported finding a malicious program dubbed XcodeGhost that was embedded in hundreds of legitimate apps. Prior to this attack, a total of just five malicious apps had ever been found in the App Store, according to cyber security firm Palo Alto Networks Inc.

Promised battery life remains at 18 hours, something Apple will need to address in upcoming generations given that rival smartwatches are promising more. Researchers said infected apps included Tencent Holdings Ltd’s popular mobile chat app WeChat, car-hailing app Didi Kuaidi and a music app from Internet portal NetEase Inc.

The tainted version of Xcode was downloaded from a server in China that developers may have used because it allowed for faster downloads than using Apple’s U.S. servers, Olson said. Tencent said on its official WeChat blog that the security flaw affects WeChat 6.2.5, an old version of its popular chatting app, and that newer versions were unaffected.

The hackers embedded the malicious code in these apps by convincing developers of legitimate software to use a tainted, counterfeit version of Apple’s software for creating iOS and Mac apps, which is known as Xcode, Apple said. Prerna Gupta from California describes her app, called Hooked, as “books for the Snapchat generation.” Hooked will feature short fiction for young-adult readers. France’s data protection watchdog rejected today an appeal by Google against a decision ordering the Internet giant to comply with users’ requests to have information about them removed from all search results. Since a European Court of Justice ruling in May 2014 recognising the “right to be forgotten” on the net, Google users can ask the search engine to remove results about them that are no longer relevant. The Android Nanodegree is an education credential that is designed to help developers learn new skills and advance their careers in a few months from anywhere on any device at their own pace.

Also, the update has fine-tuned control over alarms and timers, including the ability to cancel specific alerts and asking when multiple timers will run out. Federal authorities accuse Dotcom of facilitating Internet piracy on a massive scale and have charged him with conspiracy to commit copyright infringement, racketeering and money-laundering.

Dotcom argues that plenty of people used his site for legitimate reasons he can’t be held responsible for those who chose to use it for illegal downloads. The ‘selfie spoon’ is a selfie stick with a spoon at the end that extends up to 30 inches (76.2 cm) so people can take photos of themselves while eating.

The General Mills brand Cinnamon Toast Crunch created this new spin on the selfie stick to solve the problem of “choosing between eating and posting” a selfie, ‘The Time’ reported.
