208k Kia Soul models recalled over broken pedals.

Kia Motors America says in documents filed with the government that an unsupported section of the pedal can bend if a driver stomps on it too hard when the vehicle isn’t moving. The agency acknowledged the recall in a Wednesday letter to the automaker, saying the defect in certain model year 2014-2015 Soul and Soul electric vehicles causes the accelerator pedal to bend or break, which can cause drivers to have difficulty…

The problem has led to recall 208,858 of the hatchbacks for faulty pedals that can fracture, according to filings with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Last October 2014, according to NHTSA documents – Kia Motor America inspected two fractured accelerator pedals from the field and sent them to South Korea for evaluation. Since January 9, Kia has corrected the problem by installing rubber supports underneath the pedal’s stop but did not decide to recall older vehicles until receiving three more warranty claims. Earlier this month, Kia recalled 12,361 Sorento models for accelerator-pedal position sensors that were soldered incorrectly and can put the vehicle into a limp-home mode or a fixed-idle mode. Also this month, Kia’s parent Hyundai recalled 24,400 Genesis sedans for leaky taillights that can cause the transmission to display the wrong gear on the instrument panel or delay the engagement of reverse or drive.
