Microsoft HoloLens dev previews available at NYC via appointment.

At the studio, software developers will see a video and get hands-on demonstrations. Good news for those who want a hands-on preview of the Microsoft HoloLens augmented reality headset – the company’s New York City store is offering these immersive previews. According to Microsoft, software developers observe a hands-on demonstration of the device, and they will have an opportunity to experience HoloLens first hand. Another shows the technology’s potential in presentations and sales, using a luxury watch as an example of how holograms can give potential customers more insights into features. As the idiom says, seeing is believing and with the new experience, that’s exactly what Microsoft wants – to let people try out HoloLens for themselves.

The thing, however, is that you’ll have to schedule an appointment if you’re an interested developer, and that there are hundreds of devs already on the waitlist. And that, according to a Microsoft spokesman, is in the New York metro alone. “It’s because of this overwhelming reception that we’re eager to open the first ongoing HoloLens experience showcase for developers at the Microsoft Flagship Store in New York,” explained Microsoft Operating System Group technical fellow Alex Kipman in a statement. “Now, developers who have been wanting to try HoloLens will have the chance to experience the world’s first fully untethered holographic computer, powered by Windows 10, for themselves.” Appointments can now be scheduled at the HoloLens Events Website, though, as Kipman warned, the waiting list seems to be very, very long and expected to grow longer ahead of the 2016 previews.

Interested developers can go to www.hololensevents.com to sign-up however, I just went there to see what availability looks like and every session for the first week is already booked. The success of HoloLens, an augmented reality device, is dependent upon engagement from developers and apparently the response to the company’s call for the developer edition of HoloLens has been strong.

To make the announcement loud and clear, Microsoft created a website that will enable each one to email them and share ideas about the upcoming road show.
