Microsoft Office 2016 launches Tuesday.

The new software – one of the key products from the US tech giant – is being adapted to Microsoft’s strategy shifting away from one-time sales to an Internet cloud-based system that can be accessed from PCs as well as mobile devices. “The way people work has changed dramatically, and that’s why Microsoft is focused on reinventing productivity and business processes for the mobile-first, cloud-first world,” Microsoft Chief Executive Satya Nadella said. “These latest innovations take another big step forward in transforming Office from a familiar set of individual productivity apps to a connected set of apps and services designed for modern working, collaboration and teamwork.” Office 2016, available in 40 languages, aims to further integrate Microsoft products such as the word processing program Word, the Excel spreadsheet application and the Outlook email and messaging platform. The company is now pushing out the update to members of its Office 365 subscription service, which allows people to sign up to a cloud-based version of the applications and store things there, rather than paying for the applications through a one-off purchase. It will add that capability to the other Office apps over time according to a blog post by Kirk Konigsburger, the corporate vice president for Office Client Applications and Services.

By subscribing to Office 365, you can get always-up-to-date,fully installed apps for use across their devices, combined with a continually evolving set of consumer and commercial services, such as OneDrive online storage, Skype for Business, Delve, Yammer andenterprise-grade security features. ”The new Office was built by the new Microsoft with the clear understanding that it’s too hard to work together. The “Tell Me” tool for Word, Excel and other programs allowed people to have faster search time for functions compared to navigating Office’s menus. That said, Microsoft is promising that subscribers can expect “more frequent updates with new features and improvements.” Your options are as follows. It also allows it to work properly with Windows 10, including support for the Cortana voice-controlled digital assistant within the applications themselves.

We designed the new Office to enable people to focus on progress, not process – it takes the work out of working together,” explained Sebuh Haileleul – GM, Microsoft East and Southern Africa. Otherwise, automatic updates will start rolling out to business subscribers at the end of the month and to commercial customers at the beginning of next year. Office 365 is a the new umbrella term for Microsoft applications delivered online as a subscription service, although people can still buy shrink-wrapped versions of Office 2016 at retail. The Office 2016 apps run beautifully on the Windows, including the new Sway for Windows 10 to create shareable, interactive stories that look great on any screen. “The new Office provides built-in intelligence to help you work faster and smarter.

Operating system: Windows 7 Service Pack 1, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2, or Windows 10 Server Office 2016 supports multi-touch input on touch-enabled devices, though all features and functionality are still available using a keyboard and mouse. Microsoft is moving the whole Office franchise to this software-as-a-service delivery model pioneered more than a decade ago by Salesforce CRM -1.37% , in the customer relationship management arena. Office connects you to your work no matter where you are,” Haileleul further added. ·Co-authoring is now provided inWord, PowerPoint and OneNote desktop software, includingreal-time typing in Word that lets you see others’ edits as they make them. ·Office 365 Groups are now an integrated part of the Outlook 2016 client app and available on your favorite mobile device through the Outlook Groups app, delivering a consistent team experience across the suite. ·Introduced today, Office365 Planner helps teams organize their work, with the ability to create new plans, organize and assign tasks, set due dates, and update status with visual dashboards and email notifications.

The company does not disclose how much of the current Office sales mix goes by one-time retail purchases, PC bundles or the subscription model Microsoft Office long dominated business accounts but in the past few years has seen fierce competition from Google GOOG -2.95% Apps, an array of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications which undercut Office on price and gained traction among startups and younger users. In fact, Microsoft says that while Office is increasingly becoming more and more cross-platform, the team still considers Windows as the “home” for Office. Microsoft and Google are also locked in a battle to get customers to store their work and personal documents in their respective Microsoft OneDrive and Google Drive cloud storage repositories. Updates also include increased file size and volume limits per user, a new user interface in the browser, mobile enhancements, and new IT and developer features. ·Unveiled earlier this year, GigJamis availableTuesdayin private preview and will become part of Office 365 in 2016. The transition from a big-bang up-front license sale to a longer-term subscription sale can be initially painful for legacy IT vendors used to the older model, but that is the way of the world these days.

GigJam is an unprecedented new way for teamsto accomplish tasks and transform business processes by breaking down the barriers between devices, apps and people. ·Outlook 2016 provides the smartest inbox yet, with lightning-fast search and automatic removal of low-priority mail. The statements, comments, or opinions expressed through the use of New Vision Online are those of their respective authors, who are solely responsible for them, and do not necessarily represent the views held by the staff and management of New Vision Online. We say “building” because not all the apps are getting the feature at launch: Word has real-time coauthoring now, but the rest will see it show up “over time.” Excel 2016 includes integrated publishing to Power BI and new modern chart types. The integration means you can instant message, screen share, talk, or video chat right in your documents, plus start a real-time coauthoring session right from Skype. In short, Office 365 Groups allows individuals to easily create public or private teams that share an inbox, calendar, notebook, and cloud storage for group files.

Data Loss Prevention should reduce the risk of leaking sensitive data by letting IT admins create, manage, and enforce policies for content authoring and document sharing. Microsoft plans to enable Enterprise Data Protection (EDP) in Windows 10, starting with support in Office Mobile later this year and following with desktop app support in early 2016. The Office team is promising you’ll be able to project, create, or edit PowerPoint presentations from your phone to a monitor while using the same phone to take notes with OneNote.

The execution will be critical to ensuring the software giant’s Windows and Office platforms continue to bring in that massive productivity revenue.
