‘Hitman’ (ALL) Gets Delayed Until 2016.

Developer IO Interactive revealed on Hitman’s official site that it has delayed the release of the newest game in the stealth-based series to March 2016.Originally planned for a December 2015 release, it is now scheduled for March 2016, though the studio has promised to add more content to the title at launch. “These few extra months will mean we can add more to the launch content of the game, more than we had originally planned, and then follow with a tighter frequency of updates, which ultimately will create a better game for everyone,” IO Interactive advised via the Hitman blog. In an incredibly cruel move, Io Interactive have now announced that the game will not be available until March 2016 however, but at the same time the way they did it only increased my anticipation. As they explained on the official site: We want to make absolutely sure you all get the best possible experience when you join, so we’ve made the difficult decision to move the initial release date to March 2016.

And for the first time Hitman will lead with a digital release inviting players into a world of assassination, from the highly fashionable Paris and sunny coast of Italy to the dust and hustle of the markets in Marrakesh in this creative stealth action game. And in the end, that’s what we’re all looking for.” IO concluded by saying that “moving a launch date is never an easy decision” and while it’s frustrating for the fans, the studio wants to “deliver a better launch and overall experience.” Previously, IO went on record saying Hitman shouldn’t be called an “episodic release,” as it implies future content will cost the player additional money.

Polish and additional content is always the best reason for a delayed release, but that’s not the only reason I am more eager than ever to play Hitman. Even so, the plans haven’t gone down well with some fans and Io have had to assure them that there will be no microtransactions or DLC until the game is finished. Io Interactive added an infographic to the news post to compare the size and scope of the Paris Showstopper mission in the new Hitman with Hitman: Absolution’s largest level, and holy heck. You do have to wonder why companies like to make trouble for themselves like this though, and there’s never been any very convincing explanation for what any of this is in aid of. We’re striving to create a series of living, breathing worlds in those locations and we get pretty obsessed about every detail that you’ll experience.
