Post-apocalyptic ‘Fallout Shelter’ blasts onto Android in August

Fallout Anthology packs all five classic Fallout titles into a nifty mini-nuke case.

At E3, Bethesda both announced and launched Fallout Shelter, a mobile game where players could manage their own underground vaults in the aftermath of a nuclear disaster.

If you’re looking forward to Fallout 4 this November, but you’ve never actually played any of the games before then Bethesda has the perfect introduction. Bethesda has made a good effort with it too, as the five games included come packaged inside a (replica) Fat Man mini-nuke, which even has battery-operated sounds. It seems 2015 is shaping up to be a big year for the post-apocalyptic RPG series; in addition to Shelter, there’s also a new anthology collection launching in September, as well as the big release of Fallout 4 on November 10th.

The compilation includes Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics, Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition (i.e. the one with all the DLC included), and Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition (also with all the DLC). Check it out: Now, chances are you probably own all the classic titles—when the rights changed hands at the end of 2013, GOG.com ended up giving the first three (, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics) away for free.

The only Fallout game not included is action role-playing spin-off Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel, which was a) only on PlayStation 2 and Xbox, and b) not very good. Also announced at QuakeCon is the launch of BethesdaNet, a new global hub for all Bethesda games that seems to be similar to other publisher’s efforts at promoting fan loyalty.

And for any that thought the deal had been quietly forgotten about, Bethesda has confirmed they are still planning to give exclusive beta access to the Doom reboot to anyone that pre-ordered Wolfenstein: The New Order last year. Bethesda still hasn’t said when the beta will begin, but before it happens some of those that pre-ordered will be picked at random to take part in the Doom multiplayer alpha as well.
