Qualcomm, Inc. Giving Samsung Exclusive Access to Snapdragon 820?.

Industry experts and smartphone enthusiasts have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the first handset to feature the latest variant of Qualcomm mobile processor.

The most popular flagship has a more luxurious aspect, because it ditched the cheap looking polycarbonate shell, replacing it with a glossy glass back (Corning Gorilla Glass 4). Samsung loyalists who wanted to get their hands on the device but were holding back because of the storage restrictions, may probably scramble to the stores to snag this version. However, according to a media report originating out of China, it seems Samsung has won the race after it penned a deal with the chipmaker to power its next flagship smartphone devices with the new mobile processor. The smartphone was released last year, being an improvement over the previous iPhone 5S, because of its larger screen, which measures 4.7-inch instead of 4-inch. The South Korean company will have exclusive access up till April 2016, which could provide Samsung with a substantial competitive advantage over its rivals.

Also, Apple worked on its design, making the edges curvier, for a better grip of the phone, and the wide bands at the top and bottom of the back have been replaced with two thin lines which are needed to hide the radio antennas. While there is no official statement which validates this latest development, if true, it can prove to be the break Samsung has been seeking for the longest time. The disadvantages of the iPhone 6 – the small battery, which supports only 14 hours of talk time on 3G and 50 hours of music play; the processor is backed by 1GB of RAM, which is the limit for a decent performance.

While Samsung would only enjoy the exclusivity for a few weeks, it can help the flagging South Korean phone maker establish a significant lead over its competitors. The company is on track to release its next series of flagship smartphones next year, which includes the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, Galaxy S7 Plus, and Galaxy S7 Edge Plus. The advantages of the Galaxy S6 – its Exynos 7420 octa core processor built using a 14 nm FinFET manufacturing process supports 3GB of RAM, and the performance of the device is flawless.

Given its own in-house developed Exynos processors failed to impress, it’s no surprise Samsung has decided its next set of smartphones should incorporate one of the most powerful processors out in the market. If Samsung wants to stop its rapid decline, it is only logical to turn to the Snapdragon 820, which provides that same if not better performance than Apple’s A9 and A8X processors. When it comes to camera specification, it sports a 16-megapixel rear-facing sensor with support for LED flash and OIS, in addition to a gracious 5-megapixel secondary snapper for selfies.

On Friday, California Air Resources Board (CARB) proclaimed that it plans to extend the deadline to accept or reject Volkswagen AG (ADR) (OTCMKTS:VLKAY) emission repair plan submitted for approximately 500,000 2.0 liters vehicles until January 14. The automaker is facing investigations around the world, such as from the US Justice Department, and it is likely that it could face fines up to $21 billion within the US for violation of the Clean Air Act (CAA).

With several lawsuits surrounding the company over its diesel emission, it has become really important for Volkswagen to resolve them to recover from the scandal and gain its consumers trust. Chris Grundler, head of the EPA’s Office of Transportation and Air Quality, told Reuters on Wednesday “that the Volkswagen in America are very different than those in Europe.” California board and EPA are still waiting for the German automaker to submit separate repair plan for 85,000 larger luxury vehicles and SUVs with 3.0 liter engines with a different emission issue by early February.
