Rise of the Tomb Raider PS4 Release Revealed.

For months Microsoft has used the promise of an Xbox exclusive Rise of the Tomb Raider release to convince users to purchase its Xbox One entertainment console. Microsoft signed the game to limited exclusivity contract a few years ago, so PC and PS4 owners will have to wait a bit before delving back into Lara’s adventures. Now, after uncovering an ancient mystery, Lara must explore the most treacherous and remote regions of Siberia to find the secret of immortality before a ruthless organization known as Trinity. Let’s say someone with $400 in their pocket walks into a video game store to buy an Xbox One or a PlayStation 4, completely on the wall and 50/50 on what to get.

This is because Microsoft and Square Enix signed an exclusivity deal that locks the title on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One for an entire year when compared to the PS4. Experience high-octane action moments, conquer beautifully hostile environments, engage in brutal guerrilla combat, and explore awe-inspiring deadly tombs in the evolution of survival action. Ultimately, this just hurts the fans and paints publishers (Square Enix in this case) in a negative light for taking either Sony or Microsoft’s money for making their content a timed exclusive. Had Microsoft successfully locked down the title, Tomb Raider would have become the first game to reverse course and become exclusive to a single platform.

With the PS4 release revealed, Microsoft has to count on heavy promotion and name recognition being enough for users to flock to its platform over the PS4 this holiday season. The Xbox One version of the game launched on the same day, but heavy promotions and a dedicated PS4 bundle that included the game were too much for the Xbox One to overcome.
