Samsung Galaxy S7 rumours: Snapdragon 820 processor, price and other specs.

Here’s some good news for folks whose wanderings frequently lead them astray from strong cellular signals: Wi-Fi calling is finally coming to the Verizon network this week, albeit slowly. It was just recently that we heard about the Samsung Galaxy S7’s chipset and how it shattered AnTuTu benchmarks keeping the current competition in mind.

Starting December 8, Verizon customers will be eligible for Wi-Fi calls if they have a Samsung Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge and use the carrier’s Advanced Calling HD voice and video calling service. Reports claim that Samsung Galaxy S7 will be 10 per cent cheaper than its predecessor the Galaxy S6, although there’s no saying how Samsung will eventually price the smartphones. According to analyst Pan Jiutang (), Samsung plans to reduce the price of its next flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S7, by about 10% relative to the launch price of its Galaxy S6. A more affordable phone could entice some buyers to select Samsung’s handset over its rivals, but it highlights the issues facing the Korean tech giant.

This alone could give Samsung a much needed boost and head-start as pricing from other international smartphone brands like HTC and Sony are pretty high. The introduction of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus — the first iPhones with larger displays — likely played a factor, but the bigger contributor may have been the existence of increasingly competent low-cost Android handsets. This was surprising, since both the smartphones packed in refreshing new designs (and not to mention, fast Exynos chipsets)with Samsung focussing on metal and glass for its flagship’s construction. But because smartphones have already been commoditized, you don’t need to spend more on a surface overhaul,” a source is quoted by newspaper as saying.

Type-C USB and a microSD slot: Another report on Sammobile claims that the S7 will join the league to Type-C USB phones such as Nexus 6P, LG Nexus 5X and OnePlus 2 and ditch the micro-USB report. In comparison, the closest that this year’s flagships have managed to pull off in the same tests were around the 80,000 mark (Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin 950). These low-cost Android vendors have had little effect on more established economies, however, there are signs of growing price competition even in the U.S. smartphone market. Motorola’s Moto X Pure Edition, released earlier this fall, packs hardware competitive with Samsung’s Galaxy S6, but is only about two-thirds the price. In October, Samsung saw its total operating profit jump in the third quarter, as its mobile profits rose 37% on an annual basis, but Samsung’s chip business was its most successful unit.

Samsung’s flagship Galaxies generally offer the best hardware available in any smartphone — with enormous batteries, excellent cameras, and top-notch displays. If Samsung continues to offer leading hardware at more affordable prices, it could help reinvigorate demand for its handsets, but margins could suffer.
