OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Oct 30, 2014 (BUSINESS WIRE) — The next generation of connected wearables arrives at Sprint S, -0.17% on Friday, Nov. 7, with the launch of Samsung Gear S™, featuring connectivity in a wrist-worn wearable with a beautiful curved design.With the sizeable smartwatch having been unveiled back at IFA 2014 last month, the Moto 360 rival has been confirmed for an American release next Friday, November 7. Given the wrist wear’s integrated 3G connectivity options, the device will be made available to consumers through a range of US networks, including the likes of Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile. Starting next Friday, AT&T subscribers can pick up the wristband for $199.99 with a two-year contract, and the option to add it to a Mobile Share plan for $10 per month. New research from Samsung, out today, suggests that more and more of us are going to embrace wearables this Christmas, with revenue forecast to rise by 182% compared to last year.

There is currently no word on a confirmed Samsung Gear S UK release date, although reports yesterday claimed the watch’s British launch had been pushed back to mid-November due to stock constraints. “Samsung continues to shape the wearable category with advanced technology and new experiences,” Gregory Lee, President and CEO of Samsung America said. With Sprint Easy PaySM, well-qualified buyers can purchase Gear S with $0 down (plus tax) and 24 monthly payments of $16 (srp:$384)(srp:excluding taxes)(srp:service plan required). With an intuitive user experience, Gear S lets users view, receive, and reply to rich notifications from apps like email, messages, and social networks without pulling out their phone, or even having their phone with them.

The upside is that the carrier will waive its $10 monthly access charge through December 2015 for any Gear S added as a new line of service to a Sprint Family Share Pack of 20GB or higher. Samsung unveiled the Tizen-based standalone smartwatch in late August, boasting a curved, 2-inch, 360-by-480 Super AMOLED display, and a 1GHz dual-core processor, plus 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. However, questions about the amount of data users are creating – and that manufacturers have access to – continue to crop up in the wake of rise of wearables.
