Samsung Gear S2 release date set for October 2nd in the US.

Samsung’s smart and attractive rethink of its Gear line of smart watches, the Gear S2 now has a price, $299.99, and availability date for the U.S., October 2. Samsung Electronics has announced it will launch its new smartwatch Gear S2 this Friday in the U.S. the electronics giant based in South Korea said on Wednesday.

Samsung actually has two price tiers for the Gear S2: $299.99 for the standard, 42 mm Gear S2 and $349.99 for the slightly smaller (39.9 mm) Classic, which, with its gun metal finish and knurled ceramic bevel has a more traditional timepiece look. The Samsung Gear S2 release date is something plenty of people have been looking forward to, especially once they saw those watch faces and Tizen in action.

Though Samsung says the watch will have be able to execute best when paired with Samsung Galaxy devices, consumers can also pair the watch with Android phones running KitKat or higher. The company also has a 3G-connected version capable of phone calls and texts without being tethered to a phone, but that model won’t arrive until sometime in the fall. Samsung tells Mashable that carriers like AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon will be selling those models and pricing, model and design options are all expected to come from them. Samsung’s Gear S2 is among the most attractive wearables we’ve seen since the Apple Watch; it’s thin, responsive and has a unique and intelligent circular interface metaphor (on a higher resolution screen than the Apple Watch) that works in concert with a fully-rotatable bezel (there’s no crown). The new Gear S2 from Samsung is its seventh wearable but the first that features a round screen, which was revealed earlier in September at the trade show IFA in Berlin.

At launch Samsung says there will be a variety of apps available, including ones from Bloomberg, CNN, ESPN, Nike+ Running, Samsung Milk Music and Yelp. During the second quarter of 2015, 76% of the smartwatches sold were from Apple while the share of Samsung tumbled to just 7.5%, said Strategy Analytics. Most notably in the new smartwatch by Samsung is it runs on the homemade Tizen operating system and works with non-Samsung smartphones for the first time.
