Create More Space for Your Gaming Experience with New Seagate Game Drive for Xbox.

The 4GB model of the Xbox 360 was always a stupid idea for modern gamers, but even the base model 500GB Xbox One is looking a little paltry these days, given the rise of full game downloads and consoles as media centers. That’s why Seagate came up with its new 2TB Game Drive for Xbox, which works with both the Xboxes One and 360. Making the announcement at the Gamescom fan show in Cologne, Germany, Seagate said it has created the new storage device specifically in mind for Xbox gamers.Storing digital games is becoming a big problem for console owners — so much so that both Microsoft and Sony have released beefed up, 1TB versions of their home consoles. This new external drive is designed to complement the Xbox color scheme and is set up for an easy plug-and-play connection with an Xbox One™ or Xbox 360® gaming console. “With all of the new and amazing titles expected for this holiday season and a ton more games coming in the future, Xbox gamers will need even more storage and portability,” said Matt Kesselring, business development manager for Microsoft’s designed for Xbox partner program. “Microsoft is privileged to be working with Seagate as our trusted partner for this important designed for Xbox peripheral.” With today’s game installs averaging 35-50GB, space on the console to support a robust library of Xbox games becomes highly valued. PlayStation 4 at least lets you replace the hard drive that you’ll find inside the console, either with another hard drive or with a speedier SSD, in case you need the extra space.

Seagate made a strategic marketing relationship with Microsoft, in part because Microsoft controls what external disk drives can be connected to an Xbox One or Xbox 360. The tiny box is covered in a distinctly Xbox shade of green, and features an embossed Xbox logo that almost makes it look like a first-party piece of hardware.

The 2TB external hard-drive will be made available through numerous retailers such as Amazon and Gamespot, the 2TB hard-drive will be up for grabs for a price of $110. Currently Microsoft is shifting Xbox One consoles with internal storage of 500Gb and 1TB, the given storage might seem just about enough, however it actually isn’t, as currently the game titles that came out recently were almost about the size 35-50GB. Xbox Ones are very much limited size-wise, with only 500GB not being an ideal storage size for modern games, which could easily pass the 30GB file size without any patches or DLCs installed.

Managing your digital games wasn’t supposed to be a problem for the Xbox One — Microsoft once said that the console would “make storage management automatic” — but game installs just keep getting bigger, making add-ons like Seagate’s Game Drive necessary. Blockbusters like Battlefield or The Witcher frequently feature installs that approach 50GB, and as more gamers move to digital games, the problem is only going to get worse. However, for those who really have an issue with memory size, maybe because of a really big games library, Microsoft partnered with Seagate and decided to launch a special Xbox-branded Seagate external HDD.
