Samsung Galaxy Note Edge users in India start getting Android Lollipop update: Report.

Seoul – Samsung Electronics will use more premium materials in mobile devices to win customers and offer a wider range of connected devices after losing its outright lead in the smartphone market to Apple. Samsung just launched their new flagship smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, both displays come with a Quad HD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels and now it looks like the Samsung Galaxy S7 will have an even higher resolution display. The plan includes more smartphones with metal casings, slim designs and high-definition displays across its range of models, Co-Chief Executive Officer Shin Jong Kyun said at the company’s annual shareholder meeting in Seoul on Friday. After having recently started rolling out Android Lollipop updates for the likes of the Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy Note 3, the company has turned its attention to the Galaxy Note Edge. The company took a somewhat different approach with these two devices, both of them sport a unibody metal design, which is a first for this Korean smartphone manufacturer.

Samsung’s unveiling of new Galaxy S6 phones this month has spurred a stock rally on expectations the company can revive earnings and stem a slide in market share that saw Apple surge into a tie for global leadership. The devices include the company’s own processor chips and a model with a screen that stretches from the front down both sides. “Samsung Electronics aims to consolidate its leadership in the premium market and plans to newly change the smartphone line-up to strengthen competitiveness,” said Shin, who heads the mobile phone business. Kwon Oh Hyun, who leads the components business, said the company will try to tap new demand in the business-to-business market as well as smart home and health devices. The Suwon, South Korea-based company is moving workers and boosting investment to build a future beyond mobile phones as it tries to create a hit from what’s known as the Internet of things, technology that stitches together phones, cameras, sprinklers and roads.

As for specifications, it flaunts a 5.6-inch Super AMOLED QHD+ display, and is powered by 2.7GHz Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor inside, paired with Adreno 420 GPU and 3GB of RAM. GSM / WCDMA / TD-SCDMA / CDMA1X / CDMA2000 / TD_LTE / LTE FDD networks are all supported by the two certified smartphones, which are great news for users in Asia. Samsung is pouring more than $21 billion into capital expenditure this year to grab a bigger slice of revenue from the 1 billion handsets sold by rivals by supplying chips and displays. Also included are 32GB internal storage, microSD card support, 16-megapixel rear camera with OIS, 3.7-megapixel front-facing camera, and a 3,000mAh battery. Net income will probably decline 4 percent to 22.2 trillion won ($19.8 billion) in the year ending December, according to the average of 41 analysts’ estimates compiled by Bloomberg.

Samsung proprietary 14nm Exynos 7420 64-bit octa-core processor is powering both of these devices, and Android 5.0.2 Lollipop comes pre-installed here, with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI on top of Google’s operating system. 16-megapixel OIS camera is located on the back of these devices, and a 5-megapixel snapper is available up front (wide-angle lens).
