Edge Browser From Microsoft Soon To Work Without Plugins For Skype.

Windows 10 preview build 10547 features plenty of new tweaks and improvements, and among them is a preview of the Object RTC (ORTC) APIs for Microsoft Edge, a collection of tools that will make it easier for developers to build audio and video calling into Web apps without requiring any browser plugins.“Starting later this year, Skype users will be able to make voice and video calls without needing to install a plug-in on Microsoft Edge and we are working on bringing the same seamless experience to Skype for Business”, said the Skype team. ObjectRTC (ORTC), as well as its sister API, Web Real-Time Communication (WebRTC), are in-development web standard APIs that enable real time streaming of data between web browsers. The company will soon make it possible for Edge users to talk to their contacts on Skype without the need for a plugin, making everything faster because not only that the application won’t need add-ons that could slow it down, but it would also be easier for beginners to get in touch with their friends and family because nothing would need to be installed.

Though the browsers like Firefox, chrome and safari are compatible with WebRTC standards, it is not clear when the same “without plug-in” experience will be available in these browsers. WebRTC is the standard which is at present used by Mozilla and Google browsers, along with opera and chrome, Microsoft has detected some flaws in using it. I started with a couple of blogs of my own but then realized that I could reach a much larger audience by guest posting on established websites instead.

Though Microsoft has currently announced ORTC only for Windows 10’s Edge, there is assurance made to users that it will also be compatible with services with Web RTC. Microsoft wants Edge browser to make up the flaws of its internet explorer that has faced many glitches and bugs and made many users to move to Mozilla and chrome.
