Skype Service Problems for Some Users Worldwide.

INTERNET calls across the world had major hang ups for at least 11 hours overnight as the globe’s best known internet voice service was felled by a network error.

Skype, the Microsoft-owned online calling service, said on Monday that it’s found the reason for a glitch that prevented some users to make calls today.Microsoft, which owns Skype, said the technical problem means users signed into are unable to change their status and all contacts showed as offline even if they were online. And while the Microsoft-owned service claimed Skype calls were “fully restored” just before 10am this morning, complaints continued to stream into its Twitter feed. The latest glitch comes just four months after software engineers discovered a simple eight character code has the ability to crash Skype, and cause it to keep crashing, until you install a new version of the app. Skype, which delivered voice calls equal to 40 per cent of the international telephone call volume last year, first recognised its network issue just after 9pm last night, saying the issue prevented “some users from logging in and using Skype”.

In a post on its “heartbeat” website-used to monitor how Skype products are performing-Skype said users are experiencing several technical issues, including problems with logging in, calling, changing status, contact-list management and updating forum pages.

Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Viber, Tango, and Google Hangouts all provide free voice calling over the internet, with many Skype users reporting they transferred their business to new services while the service languished overnight. As a result, you won’t be able to start Skype calls to them.. ‘We’re doing everything we can to fix this issue and hope to have another update for you soon. Skype has lately come under increasing pressure from competitors like WhatsApp and Viber, which also allow people to send messages and call one another through a smartphone app.
