PS4 gets SA price cut.

Videogame streaming company Twitch teased a more complete version of its app for Sony’s PlayStation 4 at its TwitchCon event last month, and now the company has confirmed that the revamped app is live.”With this year’s biggest blockbusters and next year’s best exclusives such as Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End set to thrill players, there has never been a better time to join the PS4 community.

After similar cuts in North America and Australia it’s been obvious for a while that this is going to happen, but the 500GB PlayStation 4 console now has a RRP of just £299.99 in the UK and €349.99 in Europe.PlayStation 4 owners have been able to stream their video game sessions live on Twitch for years, but unlike its rival the Xbox One, Sony’s latest console only allowed users to watch Twitch broadcasts of PS4 games. Also, watch out for an amazing range of Ultimate Player Edition Bundles including the 1TB PS4 and some of the biggest games of the year, offering even greater value,” said SCEE President Jim Ryan. This is a saving of €50/£50 in these two markets, and brings the price of a PS4 with 500GB of internal storage down to the same level as a 500GB Xbox One.

That changes today with the launch of the new Twitch app, a full-featured piece of software that lets PS4 players watch broadcasts or interact with streamers of games on other platforms, bringing Sony’s machine up to speed with competing iOS, Android, and Microsoft devices. This new price cut also applies to some non-European countries including Australia and New Zealand, where the console will now cost $479.95 and $569.95 respectively. The rapidly growing company first detailed its new PS4 app last month at its first ever TwitchCon conference, explaining that in addition to the PS4, the app would be available on PS3 and Vita.

GAME also has a number of bundles for £299.99 that include the recently released Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and older titles such as Killzone: Shadow Fall and LittleBigPlanet 3. While the PS4 version is available first — launching in North, South, and Central America today before rolling out to players in other regions shortly — Twitch promises the app will be available for the older consoles before the end of fall.

The drop takes away one of the Xbox One’s key advantages this Christmas, and although Microsoft has the superior line-up of exclusives – including Halo 5, Rise Of The Tomb Raider, and Forza Motorsport 6 – Sony are still the favourites to sell more consoles this year.
