GoPro Rounds out 2015 Lineup with new HERO+ Camera.

The new Hero+ camera ($199.99) hits authorized retailers and on Oct. 4. SAN MATEO, Calif., Sept. 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ – GoPro, Inc. (NASDAQ:GPRO), enabler of some of today’s most engaging content, is making capturing and sharing immersive, on-the-go content more accessible than ever with the release of its new Wi-Fi and Bluetooth® enabled HERO+ camera.

The Hero+ also has a built-in microphone, is wearable and mountable and Bluetooth-enabled so that you can connect to the GoPro mobile app (you can also use Wi-Fi). “Even as we continue to raise the bar for our highest performing cameras like Hero 4 Black, Silver and Session, we remain committed to developing simplified products like Hero+ that make GoPro life-capture accessible to everyone,” said GoPro founder and CEO Nicholas Woodman in a statement accompanying the product announcement. Other Hero+ features include 1080p60 and 720p60 video, time lapse and burst photos, built-in microphone, single button power-up and recording with QuikCapture, HiLight tagging of key moments, as well as SuperView wide-angle and Auto Low Light video modes. It’s an action camera that slots in right between the base model Hero+ ($129.99) and the more expensive Hero+ LCD ($299.99), due for release on October 4th.

In another nod to affordability, GoPro is also reducing the price of the smaller, lighter and waterproof Hero 4 Session mini-camera by $100 to $299.99. HERO+ most notably features Wi-Fi which allows it to connect with GoPro’s mobile app and benefit from convenient tools such as a Trim & Share feature that allows the user to quickly create and share short video clips across leading social media channels.

HERO+ rounds out an exciting 2015 GoPro lineup that now boasts the new and impossibly small and simple to use HERO4 Session at a more accessible price of $299.99 MSRP. What began as an idea to help athletes self-document themselves engaged in their sport has become a standard for how people capture themselves engaged in their interests, whatever they may be. To view the original version on PR Newswire, visit: Other than the slightly improved sensor, the $70 separating the new model from the Hero+ will get you Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity so you can use your smartphone to frame shots, change camera settings, and share the videos you capture. The feature makes a pretty significant difference in day-to-day use with the camera, especially when the camera itself lacks a color display for watching what you record. The camera’s far smaller than the main flagship Hero 4 models, making it easier to carry around all day as you raft down rapids and climb up mountains. But it lacks a display, which probably made it a hard sell against the Hero 4 Silver at the exact same price — the $100 drop announced today should change that.

The Session is definitely a decent camera, and its low-profile, all-in-one form factor is very appealing, but $400 is what the Hero4 Silver costs, and that camera blows the Session out of the water in terms of image quality and options.
