Microsoft Drops Xbox One Elite Bundle Bombshell.

Microsoft’s new Xbox One is getting an elite upgrade this fall. Microsoft is planning to release an Xbox One Elite Bundle, made specifically for those who need as much performance as they can possibly eek out of Microsoft’s next-generation gaming and entertainment console. The new One isn’t the first to boast 1TB of storage — Microsoft officially announced a new iteration with a terabyte of storage at E3 — but this is the console’s first hybrid drive with that much space. The Elite Controller, however, is definitely the draw for this bundle, since it adds new features like Hair Trigger Locks and stainless steel paddles in its design. According to Microsoft, the inclusion of the SSHD “optimizes system performance so you can get to the action up to 20 percent faster from energy-saving mode.” The added benefit is the cost for a 1TB SSHD is closer to a traditional hard drive than a pure SSD that currently runs for hundreds of dollars more.

The Elite Xbox One Bundle will go on sale at Microsoft Stores and GameStop locations on November 3rd for $499, just as the last big title launches of the holiday season are set to arrive. Given that this is an SSHD, it basically means that only part of it will be SSD, while the other part is a regular HD, but unfortunately Microsoft did not mention how big the SSD partition is. If you aren’t ready to drop $150 on a performance level controller, the sleek looking Xbox One Special Edition Lunar White controller will be an option.

This includes a 3.5 mm stereo headset jack, improved bumpers, and the ability to update the controller firmware wirelessly instead of plugged into the console via a USB cable. For existing Xbox One owners who have no intention of buying the console again, Microsoft is going to tempt you with a new controller purchase instead. In addition to the Elite bundle announced today, there is the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition bundle, Madden NFL 16 bundle, Forza Motorsport 5 Limited Edition bundle, and a Halo 5: Guardians Limited Edition bundle.

This controller is just a standard Xbox controller that has the recent modifications Microsoft carried out, including a separate 3.5mm headphone jack next to the expansion port. Functionally, it isn’t different from the standard Xbox Wireless controllers that Microsoft began offering over the summer. $64.99 gets users an exclusive white design with gold painted D-Pad and triggers on the top-left and top-right sides.
