Toshiba Tips Budget-Friendly Windows 10 2-in-1 PC.

Trying to free up room in your messenger bag? Attention road warriors: Toshiba just announced a new low-cost tablet-laptop hybrid packing Windows 10, a better-than-1080p display, and Intel’s energy-efficient new Atom “Cherry Trail” x5 processors. The Satellite Click 10 is one of the earliest lightweight Windows 2-in-1 devices to pack an Atom x5, following in the footsteps of Microsoft’s Surface 3. Featuring a 10.1-inch diagonal 1,900-by-1,200-resolution TruBrite multi-touch display and an Intel Atom x5 processor with 64-bit processing and 2GB of RAM, the Click 10 and keyboard weighs only 2.2 pounds (the tablet is 1.2 pounds by itself).

The device also packs an 8 megapixel rear-facing camera, a 2MP front-facer, multidirectional TruTalk microphones, micro HDMI, microSD, a USB 2.0 slot, and Dolby Digital Plus speakers. The impact on you at home: We’re finally starting to see the early debut of high-end new machines built around Windows 10’s flagship features, like the Toshiba Satellite Radius 12. Apple unveiled the iPad Pro on Wednesday, and the new tablet raised a lot of eyebrows—not only because Apple developed a stylus to go along with it (Steve Jobs hated them), but because the tablet very closely resembles, in form factor at least, the Microsoft Surface Pro 3.

Archos also announced an x5-packing laptop in late August but that product will only roll out in France to start, and it won’t hit the streets until November. It has options for 32GB or 64GB of flash memory. “We’ve created a highly portable, versatile PC that can move easily from laptop productivity to tablet fun,” said Philip Osako, senior director of product marketing at Toshiba America Information Systems, in a statement. “With a stunning Full HD display that easily detaches as a tablet, plus exclusive features that enhance the Windows 10 experience, this device is perfect for someone always on the go.” When it comes to display, it’s hard to beat Apple’s new offering: a luxed-out 2,732-by-2,048 Retina display that, according to Apple, contains 5.6 million pixels. You can apparently fit two iPad Air 2 units—in portrait mode—in the iPad Pro’s screen in landscape, and the larger screen is optimized for multitasking and having multiple apps on your screen at once, much like Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S2 9.7.
