VR can take you to the White House; say ‘Hi’ to virtual Obama

Google Launches Holiday VR Tour of White House.

“Tour the White House in virtual reality.” That sounds unbelievably cool, but maybe we shouldn’t be surprised that it’s really not that exciting. We much prefer the moving bits that give the entire presentation a bit more vibrancy. (Would it have been that hard for Google to just set up a VR camera and drive it around authorized areas?) According to reports, Google actually used the 16-camera setup of its Jump camera rig to do all of the filming for its White House video. Google wants this sort of content to be useful for education, so it made a Google Expedition for schools participating in its Expeditions Pioneer Program. “We’ll continue to release new videos that highlight the potential of Jump,” a spokesman told VentureBeat in an email. “However, we are looking to get the tech in the hands of more creators.”

One day, when the tools to create virtual reality are better—and more people know how to create high-quality experiences—it will be,” writes Gizmodo’s Mario Aguilar.

Here you can write a commentary on the recording "VR can take you to the White House; say ‘Hi’ to virtual Obama".
