Want a new gold MacBook? Be prepared to wait.

Apple’s new gold MacBook is already sold out (AAPL).

Visitors to Apple’s website Friday morning, the first day the new computer was on sale, could still order the MacBook in gold, but will face a wait of three to four weeks until it ships. While it was a case of ‘you snooze, you lose’ for the Apple Watch, almost all models selling out shortly after online sales opened, there’s better news if you’re in the market for the new 12-inch MacBook. Even customers who don’t care as much about the novel color will face slight delays: the new silver and space gray models have waits of one to three days until they can ship. A $1,599 model gets you a 1.2GHz (2.6GHz Turbo) Core M-5Y51, the same 8GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD, and a 1.3GHz (2.9GHz Turbo) Core M-5Y71 is available as a build-to-order option if you need more speed. And it appears Apple isn’t expecting many buyers to care about the relatively weedy performance: the faster 1.3GHz processor model appears to be build-to-order only.

Check the button for that and the site displays a message saying “this customized Mac takes a bit longer to build” and shipping slips to 3-4 weeks for even the silver model … Launched at any other time, the new MacBook might be getting more attention, but on the day when all eyes are on the watch, Apple’s sleekest ever MacBook doesn’t seem to be seeing much love. Pricing for the watch varies wildly depending on which edition, body, and strap you choose, but the ones that most people will actually buy are the aluminum Apple Watch Sport and stainless steel Apple Watch models. These starting prices all include one of Apple’s colorful but sort of chunky looking Sport Bands, and the price goes up if you decide to grab a nicer looking leather or metal band. We called a few around Manhattan last night and were told units would be in stock on Friday, though as of this morning it appears supply is already running out.

If you’re buying an Apple Watch, consider going to a nearby Apple Store at some point between now and the 24th to try one on—Apple is placing the watches on demo tables where customers will be able to try them on and get short walkthroughs from Apple Store staff. Thankfully, most other models are available now, at least online, leaving plenty of options for anyone who needs to get their hands on Apple’s latest laptop as soon as possible.
