For just $9.99 a month, you’ll be able to enjoy videos across all of YouTube without ads, save videos to watch offline on your phone or tablet and play videos in the background. Otherwise, YouTube Red subscribers would be unable to access videos that non-subscribers have access to, which means subscribers would be getting less content than they would on free YouTube, not more. “Both creators and users have been asking for a YouTube subscription service and that’s why we built YouTube Red,” a YouTube spokesperson told Gizmodo. “Today, the overwhelming majority of our partners, representing nearly 99-percent of the content watched on YouTube, have signed up.

Videos of partners who don’t update their terms will be made private, but we remain committed to working closely with these partners with the goal of bringing them on board.” That curious “1 percent” is pretty tricky, though, especially for the people who make a living through their YouTube channels. We’re excited to announce some of them today, with more to come: Scare PewDiePie: In this reality-adventure series from the creator and executive producers of The Walking Dead at Skybound Entertainment and Maker Studios, experience thrills, chills and laughter as PewDiePie encounters terrifying situations inspired by his favorite video games.

Sing It!: From Fine Brothers Entertainment and Mandeville Films comes SING IT!, a scripted comedy that lovingly satirizes the reality singing competitions that have become a centerpiece of pop culture. One YouTuber even created a petition called “Stop YouTube Red” that’s garnered close to 6,000 signatures so far. (It’s unclear if the person behind the petition actually understands how YouTube Red will work.) People aren’t just upset about the YouTube creator contract, either. Lazer Team: In this feature-length action-comedy from Rooster Teeth and Fullscreen Films, four small-town losers stumble upon an alien ship carrying a mysterious cargo, leading to a battle to save Earth from an all-powerful enemy. A Trip to Unicorn Island: From the team at Astronauts Wanted, this feature-length movie gives fans an extraordinary look inside the life and journey of Lilly Singh as she embarks on a challenging 26-city global tour where she has to remember to practice what she preaches: happiness is the only thing worth fighting for.

These are people who still make money from their cut of advertising revenue on YouTube, but they’re worried about how those numbers will change in the brave new world of Red: YouTube currently gives content creators 55 percent of the advertising revenue on their videos, and the company says it will give YouTube Red partners a majority of the subscription revenue they bring in. Single by 30: In this romantic drama series from Wong Fu Productions and New Form Digital, two high school best friends make a promise to get married if they’re still single at 30.

Untitled CollegeHumor project: Written by and starring the cast of CollegeHumor, along with special guests, this new anthology series will take a dark and comedic look at the absurdity of Internet culture. Arden Rose has over a million subscribers, and she’s not happy about YouTube Red: Clearly, this matters for people who are making money off of YouTube. Fight of the Living Dead: In an unprecedented social experiment reality show from Alpine Labs, Fight of the Living Dead takes popular YouTube talent and traps them in a frighteningly realistic zombie apocalypse.

If creators don’t like the terms of YouTube’s deal, they can either kiss their content (and paycheck) goodbye, or try their luck at another video site like Vimeo. Today at the VidCon 2010 conference, we announced support for videos shot in 4K, meaning that now we support original video resolution from 360p all the way up to 4K. YouTube Red isn’t supposed to change how regular YouTube works, but that will remain a mystery until YouTube starts rolling out the exclusive content in January. (The ad-free part starts next week.) Until then, enjoy your innocence. To give some perspective on the size of 4K, the ideal screen size for a 4K video is 25 feet; IMAX movies are projected through two 2k resolution projectors.
