ZOMBI is Coming to PC, Xbox One and PS4.

Ubisoft has announced that ZombiU, one of the best games available during the Wii U’s launch window, will be available to download on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One beginning August 18.When ZombiU first released in 2012, it gave Wii U owners the rare opportunity to enjoy a genuinely frightening experience on a platform that, even three years later, doesn’t have a lot of options for fans of the horror genre. The survival-horror game-which launched on Wii U in 2012-challenges players to see how long they can survive in “dilapidated, infected London”, Ubisoft said. “ZombiU could have been an enjoyable action game, but instead it is a poor entry in the survival horror genre”. In the Wii U version, inventory management happened on the GamePad, and there was no way to pause the game, so switching items or healing meant you opened yourself to imminent death.

The game’s inventory and permadeath systems arrive intact: tools, first aid kits, maps and more can only be accessed by searching through a bag which obscures the player’s view of the action, and upon character death, the player has one chance to get back to his or her equipment before it is lost forever. “For the second time in history, a great plague has shrouded the city in a fog of death,” said Ubisoft. “Thousands have died, or worse, been infected by a sickness more gruesome than death.” In this developer diary, Arma 3’s Creative Director Jay Crowe and Project Lead Joris-Jan van ‘t Land discuss how the devteam came to a South Pacific destination, describe some of the key characteristics and points of interest on Tanoa, and reflect on development so far and the roadmap ahead. Its post-apocalyptic terror relied on that touchscreen-on making players manage inventory, puzzles, security cameras, and other stuff on a smaller screen while zombies raged on your TV-making it a rare delight in an otherwise crowded zombie-gaming landscape.

Zombi’s permadeath mechanic will once again force players to think strategically to survive (or to risk it all to regain their loot if they don’t). A prototype for ZombiU 2 was developed, and was even said to feature a co-op mechanic. “It disappears when not required, giving the game a very lonely feeling”.
