Xbox One Exclusive Rise of the Tomb Raider Coming to PC, PS4 Next Year

24 Jul 2015 | Author: | No comments yet »

PlayStation 4 users will have to wait a whole year to play Tomb Raider and they’re not happy.

Since the announcement that Rise of the Tomb Raider would be sort-of exclusive to the Xbox One, Microsoft and Square Enix have played coy about what the boundaries of that exclusivity would be. The Xbox 360 and Xbox One versions will be released on November 10 this year, while the Windows 10 and Steam version will be released in ‘early 2016′. So, are you willing to be stubborn and let Microsoft and Crystal Dynamics, the game’s developer, know that you’d rather wait a year than buy an Xbox to play it on, or will you fall for the bait?

It all means that Xbox One players will be exploring Siberia with Lara from November, while the game will be available on Steam and PC from early next year, and PlayStation users will be waiting until the Christmas period next year. Shenmue III and Street Fighter V, e.g., are also games from external publishers that are (at least sort-of) exclusive to PlayStation 4 but also arriving on PC. The growing expense and risk of developing a huge blockbuster game has clearly hit the hardware makers as well; neither Xbox One nor PlayStation 4 has a very good library of exclusive software yet.

Both parties have something the other needs badly: Microsoft and Sony need the lure of big franchises, and software makers need that sweet, sweet cash.
