Microsoft reveals 16 new Xbox 360 games now available on the Xbox One.

The Xbox One now supports 16 more Xbox 360 games. Microsoft’s plan is to add more games every month, but they have to get permission from the original publisher – which is presumably the reason for the odd mix of classics and minor titles.

And if you’ve got an old 360 copy of games like Braid, Ms Pac-Man and Portal: Still Alive you’ll be able to pop the disc straight into the drive to play away for free. Microsoft stuck to its promise that it would update its latest home console each month with new backward compatibility games, and today the company posted a blog detailing the new batch of 360 releases that are making the leap to Xbox One. Microsoft has also revealed the 10 most popular backwards compatible games so far, although the list is skewed because Fallout 3 and others were being given away free with new game purchases. Gamers were delighted that the firm had opened up 100 of its old titles for play on the new machine using a clever emulator that mimicksthe Xbox 360 interface.

The biggest games include Portal, Halo Reach, and Deus Ex: Human Revolution — although, I’m partial to the free, commercial-as-a-game platformer Doritos Crash Course. Finally, it also seems possible that monthly announcements of new backward compatible games could help Microsoft win a bit of the public relations war with Sony.
