Android bot seen peeing on Apple logo in Google Maps; Google apologises, removes it.

Though, the image has now been removed by Google, this awkward figure was pointed out by Team Android which stated that the image, at the time of posting, was located in Rawalpindi, Pakistan on Google Maps.

The very blunt message appearing just south of the Pakistani city of Rawalpindi seemed to be a shot at Apple, which is also one of Google’s competitors. We’re guessing that the city’s residents aren’t passionate enough about their gadget preference that they would plan parks and pavements to map out this image. The vast majority of users who edit our maps provide great contributions, such as mapping places that have never been mapped before, or adding new business openings or address changes.

In any case, Google has since removed the once-hidden egg from its maps feature. “We’ve terminated the Android figure involved in this incident, and he’ll be disappearing from Google Maps shortly,” a representative for for the company told the Guardian. The report explained that Google Maps relies on a feature called Map Maker, which allows users around the world update it in an attempt to help the company use local knowledge to keep up with ever-changing infrastructure. Google says it learns from these situations, but the takeaway seems to be that the company needs a better approval system for Map Maker and verified locations.

Naturally, people are on the hunt for more images ingrained in the landscape. In Short: Google Maps is full of surprises, but this one is possibly the oddest we’ve seen.
