Report: YouTube’s 2-in-1 subscription service is coming this October.

YouTube might be launching its long-awaited subscription service as soon as the end of October, according to Recode. The video-sharing portal YouTube is planning to incorporate a subscription option to the website, to offer music and ad-free videos to its users for a price after 10 years as a free service.The new alternative to the free services will also come with Music Key, an app developed by YouTube for music streaming that offers offline access to the website’s content, along with the ability to play it in the background.

Google’s video website already sent out emails to content owners, asking them to agree to the terms for a “new ads-free version of YouTube” by October 22nd. However, YouTube’s email and corresponding FAQ page also made it clear creators who don’t join the subscription service will lose monetization capabilities on their videos within the United States.

Google-owned YouTube looks to be in the final stages of launching its subscription service, and a report from Re/Code claims the date to mark on users’ calendars may be October 22, 2015. It has grown into its own industry that provides a possible path in life for some content creators, who spend their time making videos and keeping one eye on their subscribers. According to YouTube’s official messages, interested customers have to log into their accounts and agree with the new terms that the company is offering. So it’s unclear how the company will make money from the twofer, especially since it reportedly had trouble locking down deals for its ads-free model earlier this year. We all know YouTube has been planning to launch a completely ad-free subscription, but the details have been sorely lacking on things like how much it will cost, what will be included, and when it will launch.

Re/Code’s sources claim that is because YouTube will be bundling in an update to its Music Key service, as well as a brand-new service that would allow users to enjoy an ad-free viewing experience. Hence, the service is expected to be the same for the rest of the world. “We are progressing according to plan to provide fans more options in how they enjoy the content on YouTube[…] We have support from the overwhelming majority of our partners, with over 95 percent of YouTube watch time covered by agreements, and more in the pipeline about to close” the company representatives said in a statement as reported by Recode. This message (posted at the bottom of this article) asks that YouTube channel owners agree to a new set of terms of service, or else their videos “will no longer be available for public display or monetization in the USA”.

As Music Key was supposed to cost $10 a la carte, the rumored monthly subscription fee of $10 sounds like a bargain, with music labels and copyright owners due to collect the majority of those fees. This evidence is accompanied by other rumors coming from “video industry sources”, who claim this service is to be bundled with YouTube Music Key, the company’s music streaming paid subscription.
